Ever consider fasting? Not from food, but from social media?
Dr. Seth Scott, Columbia International University’s director of the Graduate Counseling Division, writes that the emphasis for fasting from food is not necessarily because food is inherently harmful or bad, but because we want to ensure that we are intentional in our practice to do all for the glory of God and cast off whatever prevents or distracts us from achieving Christlikeness.
He notes that the internet in general and social media, in particular, can ensnare and enslave us because we are designed as creatures of desire. God created us to crave relationships with Him and one another.
Scott challenges us to evaluate each of our behaviors and opportunities against whether they are helpful or harmful to our Christian walk, especially social media.
