Dr. David DeWitt serves as Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences and Dean of Health Professions at CIU, where he leads the development of Christ‑centered, academically excellent science programs that prepare future scientists, physicians, and health professionals. A biomedical scientist and seasoned academic leader, he has overseen the creation of 14 undergraduate science degrees as well as masters and doctoral programs, reflecting a sustained commitment to academic innovation and student success.
Prior to joining CIU, he served nine years as Chair of Biology and Chemistry at Liberty University. He supports professional and clinical programs by ensuring accreditation quality, licensure readiness, and strong partnerships with the health‑care community.
A dedicated educator, Dr. DeWitt has taught undergraduate and graduate courses including biochemistry, cell biology, anatomy & physiology, general biology, and origins. He is passionate about helping students develop scientific competence, confidence, and clarity as they prepare for careers in research, medicine, and allied health fields. His teaching emphasizes academic excellence and the integration of faith, encouraging students to see the wonder of God’s design in human biology and creation.
As a researcher, Dr. DeWitt received funding from the National Institutes of Health and published in peer‑reviewed journals with student co-authors, focusing on early triggers of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s Disease. His work has contributed to understanding the molecular mechanisms that underlie disease progression and potential therapeutic pathways.
Dr. DeWitt has taught for the Institute for Creation Research, authored numerous articles for Answers in Genesis, and written the book Unraveling the Origins Controversy: Science and the Bible Confirm Creation.
He and his wife, Marci, have three grown children and enjoy life in South Carolina with their cavapoo, Joy.
