David A. Croteau

David A. Croteau, Ph.D., is a New Testament professor and dean at Columbia International University who helps students read Scripture carefully, question popular assumptions, and connect rigorous biblical study with faithful Christian ministry. Whether he is teaching Greek, biblical interpretation, the Gospel of John, Acts, or the letters of Paul, he wants students to gain both confidence in God’s Word and practical tools for interpreting and communicating it responsibly.

Dr. Croteau earned his Ph.D. and Th.M. in Biblical Studies with an emphasis in New Testament from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, an M.Div. from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, and a B.A. in Counseling from California State University, Fresno. He has taught undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students in residential and online settings, including seven years on the full-time faculty at Liberty University. His ministry experience has also taken him around the world to train pastors and Christian leaders in countries including India, Indonesia, Cambodia, Nepal, Kenya, Tanzania, and South Korea.

His scholarship focuses on how Christians understand and apply the New Testament. He is especially interested in the Gospel of John, New Testament Greek, biblical interpretation, Christian giving, Bible translation, and correcting common misconceptions about Scripture. He is the author or editor of several books, including Urban Legends of the New Testament, Urban Legends of the Old Testament, Perspectives on Tithing, and Which Bible Translation Should I Use? He also contributed the notes on Galatians to the Grace and Truth Study Bible.

Since becoming dean of CIU’s Seminary and School of Counseling in 2021, Dr. Croteau has helped develop doctoral programs, expand online education, and launched innovative approaches to ministry preparation, including CIU’s mentored, competency-based Engage program. These leadership experiences reinforce his conviction that excellent Christian education should integrate biblical competency, spiritual maturity, and ministry skill.

Dr. Croteau and his wife, Ann, have two adult children, Danielle and DJ. They are members of Sandhills Community Church in Columbia. His goal is that students become careful interpreters of Scripture, humble lifelong learners, and faithful servants who teach God’s Word with clarity, wisdom, and conviction.
