The Master of Divinity in Ministry Studies equips you with a deep biblical-theological foundation and practical skills essential for ministry leadership in diverse contexts. This program at Columbia International University prepares you to serve effectively in a local church, para-church organization, or mission agency through a personalized curriculum designed for real-world ministry application.
You will develop expertise in biblical interpretation, theology, and leadership, gaining the ability to analyze and synthesize the Old and New Testaments with a focus on God’s redemptive mission and the Great Commission. You will practice sound exegesis of Scripture in its original languages, applying biblical truth to contemporary challenges. The program also explores global Christianity, equipping you to engage cultural and theological issues from a biblical perspective. Additionally, you will refine leadership, preaching, teaching, and counseling skills, preparing you to disciple others and navigate complex ministry settings. In this course, you will learn the organizational and management principles needed to serve in the local church and para-church ministries. By the end of the course you will have created programs/events and administrative documents that accomplish the mission and vision of the ministry in which you serve.
In this course, you will learn how to lead and equip others using biblical mandates, proven leadership theory, professional competencies, and practical wisdom. You will learn the current leadership language, the major theories of leadership, and the contemporary application of those theories. You will learn and practice ministry skills that may be applied in a congregational worship setting or in a pluralistic multi-faith environment.
You will learn the basic model common to short-term cognitive therapies and its application to treating dysfunctional emotions and self-sabotaging behaviors. You will learn cognitive, behavioral, and emotive interventions as well as techniques to help prevent relapse. You will also consider how to integrate your clients’ faith/spirituality with the basic model and interventions.
