Columbia International University alumna Sharon Hanna got a big surprise when she entered her third-grade classroom at American Leadership Academy (ALA) in Lexington, South Carolina. Her students were in on a secret — Hanna was named the News 19 WLTX Teacher of the Week.
Hanna, who graduated from CIU in 1987 with a degree in Bible Teaching, was nominated for the award by first year ALA teacher Jennifer Lowry who said she appreciated Hanna’s help as she adjusted to her new position.
Hanna taught third grade years ago before homeschooling her own children for 20 years. She says her love for teaching started as a child when she would play school with her sisters.
“I used to pretend to play school all the time and I was always the teacher, and I was always teaching them,” Hanna told WLTX.
