After 15 years of excellent academic leadership, Columbia International University will be saying farewell to Provost Dr. James Lanpher as he retires at the end of this calendar year.
CIU President Dr. Bill Jones says Lanpher “will be deeply missed.” Under Lanpher’s guidance, CIU has grown to add multiple academic programs including expansion of the Cook School of Business, the addition of the School of Nursing, and the rapid growth of new science programs.
Assuming the provost position will be Dr. Gary Weier who is CIU current associate provost. Weier has more than 30 years of experience in Christian higher education, serving as a faculty member, department chair, administrator, senior executive, and board member.
Jones says Weier is deeply committed to the mission of Christian higher education and supporting the faculty and staff who carry out that mission.
“Dr. Weier is a highly qualified academic leader,” Jones said. “We have found someone whose values and calling are deeply aligned with CIU’s mission. He is not merely filling a position; he is helping us fulfill our vision for the future.”
