Sport Management Alumni Spotlight: Milena Picciano

Sport Management Alumni Spotlight: Milena Picciano

October 2, 2024

Milena Picciano is a ticket sales account executive with the Augusta Green Jackets minor league baseball team. Milena started as a game day intern with the team in 2021 working in various departments. She then joined the staff as a ticket and group sales intern in 2022, before moving into her current full-time position with the sales team beginning with the 2023 season.

Milena was asked to describe a typical day in her role with Minor League Baseball. She shared the following insights into her varied responsibilities:

Gamedays: On game days, I arrive at the office around 9:30 a.m. Our front office team holds a meeting at 9:45 a.m. to review the evening’s schedule. Much of my day is dedicated to preparing for the groups attending that night. My gameday responsibilities include guest services, ticket checks at the Picnic Patio, attending to group and season ticket member needs, pulling the tarp on rainy days, managing exit gates, and more.

Non-Game Days During the Season: On non-game days, my hours are typically from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. I focus on ensuring that groups are paid in full and are well-informed about event details. These days also involve making phone calls and sending emails to secure additional group sales for the season.

Off-Season: During the off-season, my schedule usually follows a 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. routine. Despite the season being over, the sales staff remains active with meetings, phone calls, emails, and various projects. We start preparing for the upcoming season almost immediately. Additionally, I participate in monthly meetings with the Augusta Metro Chamber.

Milena was also asked what skills she learned while at CIU that help her in her current role with the Green Jackets: One key takeaway from CIU has been the importance of networking and relationship building. She also mentioned the importance of being a learner and always being willing to learn something new. Finally, she highlighted the importance of being fully present wherever you are.
