Men’s Soccer makes history with first AAC Championship

It took double overtime, but it was worth all the effort. The CIU Rams men’s soccer team defeated the St. Andrews Knights 3-2 on Oct. 26 in Laurinburg, North Carolina, securing their first-ever regular season Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) championship. Not only that, the Rams remain undefeated this season at 15-0 overall and 11-0 in he AAC.
In the first overtime period, the Rams and Knights could not find the net for the game-winner. The match moved to a second overtime, where Sohya Yamamoto would seal it for the Rams.
CIU Coach Bill Brindley said he is proud of his team.
“They came together and yet again played with huge hearts to grind out a gusty win,” Brindley said. “This is a special group that I don't believe is finished."
