The desire of CIU Counseling professor: “Help me help others”
June 10, 2022
For 25 years, Columbia International University Counseling Professor Dr. Larry Wagner has been a wise guide to both students and colleagues, living up to the title of his book, “Help Me Help Others.”
Wagner was honored recently for his years at CIU, first as a professor in the undergraduate Psychology major, and more recently as a core faculty member of the graduate Clinical Counseling program.
Dr. David Croteau, dean of the Seminary & School of Ministry, says Wagner is a deep processor and can be a man of few words.
“Those few words, though, are always worth waiting for,” Croteau told a gathering of CIU faculty and staff. “In other words, when Larry speaks, everybody listens. He thinks deeply about issues, and he cares deeply about those around him. He cares about students, about CIU, about pastors, and about the Church of Jesus Christ.”
Croteau said he has personally heard many testimonies from pastors in the Columbia area who have seen Wagner as a counselor, and “they sing his praises.” On campus, Croteau says Wagner takes on whatever courses and tasks come his way “with grace and a commitment to excellence, because he wants our graduates to be the best licensed professional counselors they can be.”
Croteau added that Dr. Wagner and his wife Sue “make a great team who care for and help others with love and respect.”
