Shannon Nichols directs the general education of mathematics at CIU. With over 30 years of experience teaching mathematics in a variety of settings, she emphasizes conceptual understanding and the application of mathematics to various fields of study bringing more enthusiasm and interest to the subject area. To increase student engagement, she combines research-based teaching methods with technology encouraging students to collaborate and think critically deepening their appreciation of the importance of quantitative literacy in their education. When not with students, being outdoors in God’s creation brings her renewed energy and an excitement for a new adventure.
