Columbia International University’s Business and Career Development Center hosted a spring job fair that included representatives from over 35 businesses and ministries who connected with CIU students to fill full-time, part-time and internship positions.
While the event was tailored primarily to Business majors to help them to learn how to promote themselves effectively as valuable employees, the opportunity was open to all majors.
Brandon Samuel, representing Wycliffe Bible Translators, said that despite the need for Bible translators in their organization, people with other skillsets and qualifications keep their operation running.
“As a missions organization, we are looking for employees that are global, mission-minded and that really have a heart for people in the world who don’t have Scripture in their own language,” Samuel said. “That doesn’t mean that they have to work in linguistics directly but (rather) that they’re partnering with a group of over 100 organizations working together to get Scripture in everyone’s language.”
Samuel made a point of coming to CIU to connect with young people, something he missed out on early in life.
“I’m really passionate about the next generation and their involvement and in igniting a fire in them to want to participate in global missions,” Samuel added. “When I was a kid … no one really talked to me about it, so I want to be that person that gives them an opportunity to see that there are more options to choose from.”
Britany Benjamin with Boys and Girls Club, hoped to connect with future teachers.
“In employees, we’re looking for people who are passionate about education … are willing to work those 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. hours … and are open to working with kids,” Benjamin said referring to after-school hours.
Elle Surprenant with Camp Canaan in Rock Hill, South Carolina, said she came to CIU to recruit Christian counselors who are strong in their faith.
“We are looking for people that love Jesus and who want to spread the gospel to kids.”
