Faculty, Kepha Computer Science

Description

The Kepha computer science faculty will oversee undergraduate curriculum/course design, teach undergraduate and some graduate computer science courses and perform other academic related duties such as student advising. The word “Kepha” is an Aramaic form of the Greek “Cephas,” which means “Rock” (referenced interchangeably with the Latin “Petros” in the New Testament). The name was chosen based on biblical references to “rocks” as foundational imperatives. The goal of the Kepha Institute is to prepare graduates to become solid “cornerstones” of transforming communities. This is an on-campus (remote work possible) position. 

Responsibilities

The duties of Kepha computer science faculty specifically include the following:

  • Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, program materials, and instruction within the higher education division of the Kepha Institute on subjects relevant to computer science, working closely with Kepha leadership as part of the Institute.
  • Plan and prepare in-person and distance learning program course syllabi, course materials, tests, and assignments in alignment with Kepha mission and goals.
  • Plan and evaluate methods of instruction, including integration of innovative online and technology-enhanced course components to enhance learning across different delivery modes.  
  • Prepare and deliver lectures, demonstrating excellence in classroom teaching, including proficiency in classroom and online instructional technology. 
  • Issue student assignments, administer examinations, and grade student performance.
  • Advise and mentor students on academic progress and career goals; foster student-faculty relationships by participating in student functions and small groups as appropriate. 
  • Foster and promote teaching excellence. Provide orientation, training, mentoring, coaching, and evaluation for adjunct faculty. 
  • Support the delivery of services in situations involving a variety of practices and processes including but not limited to communications, reporting, stakeholder engagement or document filing and archiving.
  • Work with other Kepha departments, such as marketing and admission, for promoting and developing the Kepha computer science program.
  • Proactively supports students to become responsible, ethical, self-directed professionals. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned as customary for university professors, including but not limited to participating in academic research and scholarship, community events, student and/or faculty recruitment, and guest lecturing.

Qualifications

  • Functional level in English and Chinese; capable of teaching courses in English and in Chinese.
  • Leadership and supervisory experience preferred. 
  • Ability to address student academic-related issues and concerns in support of retention and student success. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge leading and managing in a creative and fast-paced environment. 
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills; able to relate to and communicate with diverse students, faculty, staff, and external communities. 
  • Ability to present a professional image on behalf of the Kepha Institute \Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and learning management systems in support of quality teaching and learning. 
  • Critical thinking, self-motivated, proactive, and innovative working attitude
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently and effectively
  • Positive attitude and high energy 
  • Commitment to professional integrity, including knowledge of and commitment to upholding federal confidentiality guidelines regarding confidentiality of student academic information. 
  • Commitment to maintaining best practices in service, innovation, and efficiency. 
  • Commitment to a collaborative work environment. 
  • Awareness of and aptitude to understand, respect, and adapt to cultural and identity-based difference within group environments appropriately and effectively. 
  • Knowledge of and commitment to concepts and issues tied to Christian higher education.  
  • Skills related to creating and supporting an environment that allows for inclusion, effective intercultural engagement, and personal humility and authenticity. 
  • Experience fostering and reinforcing an environment that values unique experiences, cultures, backgrounds, and goals. 
  • Earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution, with content in the discipline areas to be taught such as a Ph.D. degree in computer science, information technology, information systems, software engineering, cybersecurity, game design, artificial intelligence, data analytics, informatics, cloud computing, or closely related fields is preferred.  
  • At least two years of related teaching and administrative experience required.
