Columbia International University ranks among the best universities in the South in the 2027 Best Colleges rankings released by U.S. News & World Report.
CIU is #6 in the Social Mobility category among Regional Universities (South), which is up one spot from the 2026 rankings.
The Social Mobility ranking is important for students who are economically disadvantaged and less likely to finish college. The survey indicates CIU is among the best in making sure these students succeed.
CIU Provost Dr. Jim Lanpher calls the Social Mobility ranking “an honor.”
“It reflects our Christ-centered commitment to providing access, support, and opportunity so that students from every background can flourish in their calling,” said Lanpher.
CIU also captured a high ranking in the new U.S. News & World Report category “Top Private Schools.” CIU is #39 among Top Private Schools – Regional Universities (South).
Lanpher says this ranking reflects positively on CIU’s mission to educate students from a biblical worldview to impact the nations with the message of Christ.
“Our community is focused on developing students academically, professionally, and spiritually so that they can enter the workforce as well-trained and effective leaders with strong Christian values,” Lanpher said.
Meanwhile, CIU is celebrating record-breaking enrollment this fall with 3,360 undergraduate and graduate students studying on campus and/or online.
