Description

Music faculty position to teach undergraduate music courses, oversee the development of CIU’s music programs as music program director, and provide visionary leadership in launching and directing a CIU Pep Band to support campus spirit, athletic events, and community engagement.  The successful candidate must be able to advance the evangelical Christian mission of the institution.  The faculty member will advise music majors and collaborate with other faculty in administering goals, program development, and program activities. Teaching load is 24 semester hours annually.

Responsibilities

  • Teach up to 24 semester hours per year across music, music ed, worship arts, applied lessons, ensembles etc.
  • Advise students in music, music ed, and worship arts as needed fostering musical excellence and spiritual growth
  • Recruit, organize and oversee the CIU Pep Band, for performances at athletic and campus events.
  • Coordinate music adjunct faculty and music lesson instructors
  • Interact with prospective students as needed
  • Endorse and model professional standards and proficiencies
  • Serve on committees as assigned within the university
  • Assist regularly with assessment of CIU’s music curriculum
  • Participate in faculty meetings at the college and university level; attend other appropriate events including chapel, conferences, and student events
  • Yearly affirm the institution’s mission, doctrinal position, community standards, and CIU’s position on human origins (Faculty Guide)

Qualifications

  • Experience teaching college music related courses
  • Ability to teach effectively at the college level
  • Ability to supervise music education student teachers preferred
  • Competency in utilizing learning management tools and classroom technology
  • Ability to use technology effectively in teaching as appropriate
  • An understanding of the needs and trends associated with traditional college age students
  • Commitment to CIU’s mission and vision
  • Commitment to live within the standards of the CIU community
  • Minimum master’s degree in music from an accredited university
  • Preference given to individuals with an earned doctorate (PhD, EdD, etc.)
