Description

The Associate Provost provides leadership and support for initiatives across the university on behalf of the Provost. The Associate Provost supports and serves as a critical resource for the Provost, deans, and other senior leaders in operation and delivery of key initiatives that further the university’s goals of enrollment growth and academic excellence. This includes oversight of the office of institutional research, the library, the office of instructional design, the institutional review board, and others as needed. The Associate Provost works alongside the Provost in areas such as accreditation, faculty development, planning, academic policy development, curriculum review, and others as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Work with key stakeholders in academic and other administrative units to align university goals and initiatives pertaining to retention and graduation rates with priorities and processes within individual areas.
  • Provide leadership to the director of institutional research, the library director, and director of instructional design and others as need to coordinate those respective departments toward unit goals and initiatives.
  • Ensure that departments provide consistent, effective, timely, courteous service to students, faculty, staff, and external agencies (accreditation, state, federal, and professional)
  • Assist in the development, coordination, and implementation of curricular and academic policies through involvement on the academic council and the curricular review committees of the institution.
  • Create and implement a program of faculty orientation and development.
  • Oversee and coordinate the process of administrative assessment and planning.
  • Ensure both consistent and reasonable communication, interpretation and implementation of academic policies and procedures while maintaining the appropriate documentation of approval of exceptions.
  • Act as liaison with accreditors as needed and directed by the provost.
  • Prepare departmental budget requests and administer/monitor departmental budgets.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree required, doctorate preferred.
  • Experience as an administrator at an institution of higher education, or if lacking experience, demonstrated interest in and potential for academic leadership.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Oral and written communication skills necessary to engage with and lead in diverse areas.
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and create solutions consistent with institutional goals.
