Description

The experienced and mission-minded adjunct professor will teach online courses in the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) in Care and Counseling and the Master of Arts (M.A.) in Care and Counseling programs within the Seminary and School of Counseling. The M.Div. in Care and Counseling prepares students for roles in pastoral ministry, church-based counseling, and missionary care support. The M.A. in Care and Counseling equips students for lay counseling, discipleship ministries, and entry-level care roles with a strong emphasis on spiritual formation and biblical wisdom. Both programs emphasize holistic formation, integrating theological education with practical care competencies.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, asynchronous (with some synchronous components) online instruction using CIU’s learning management system (Canvas).
  • Facilitate student engagement through discussion boards, live discussions, and timely feedback.
  • Grade assignments, assessments, and other learning activities in alignment with provided rubrics.
  • Uphold academic integrity, student care, and CIU’s doctrinal standards.
  • Maintain active communication with students and program leadership.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated professional experience in counseling, care ministry, or pastoral leadership. Experience in missionary care support a bonus.
  • Strong alignment with CIU’s evangelical theological commitments and biblical worldview.
  • Previous experience teaching in online or hybrid formats is preferred.
  • Licensure or certification in counseling or a related field is highly desirable but not required for all courses.
  • Ability to engage students from diverse ministry and cultural backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with integrative approaches that combine biblical care and clinical insight.
  • Competency in online teaching platforms such as Canvas preferred.
  • Commitment to mentoring students in both character and competence, with an emphasis on spiritual formation.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive, Christ-centered academic community.
  • Master’s degree in counseling, pastoral care and/or counseling, marriage and family therapy, or a related field is required.
  • Doctorate (Ph.D., Psy.D., D.Min.) is preferred.
