Alex Manzewitsch

Dr. Alex Manzewitsch joined CIU in 2023 after teaching at the University of South Carolina. He now teaches general and organic chemistry, their lab sections, and undergraduate research seminar.

Dr. Manzewitsch strives to prepare students to become Christian influences in the fields of health services and natural science. This includes training students spiritually, academically, and giving them opportunities for hands-on experience. Since chemistry is a challenging subject, he endeavors to assist students any way he can on their journey. Whether meeting during office hours to work through homework, leading exam review sessions, or discussing the previous lecture over lunch, Dr. Manzewitsch is excited to help students do their best.

One of Dr. Manzewitsch favorite things about his work is continuing to assist students after they graduate, whether that means writing letters of recommendation or just getting together to catch up on life.

In everything, his intention is to teach students the harmony of God’s creation, logical problem-solving, and an ethic of excellence so that “that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

His research interests revolve around how organic molecules form and arrange themselves in different kinds of solvents. Understanding such molecule-solvent interactions provides insight into the mechanics of like drug-receptor interactions and how to optimize chemical reactions toward specific products. While assisting in research projects, students will get to use state-of-the-art lab instruments, such as IR spectrometry, gas chromatography, and Spartan molecular modeling.

Dr. Manzewitsch lives with his wife and their children in the Columbia area. His hobbies include running, the outdoors, tabletop role-playing games, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He is also involved in pro-life advocacy with the University’s Rams for Life.
