Chief Financial Officer

Description

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a pivotal executive leader, responsible for the strategic planning and management of the University’s financial resources. This role entails the oversight and dissemination of financial information to both internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Financial Leadership: As a member of the President’s Cabinet, the CFO evaluates the financial implications of institutional plans, develops robust business models, and formulates recommendations on the allocation of financial resources to align with strategic goals.
  • Financial Reporting: Delivers comprehensive financial and operational reports to the Board of Trustees, executive team, and external stakeholders, including accreditors, donors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Operational Excellence: Directs and enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of operations in Finance/Accounting, Auxiliary Services, and Physical Plant. Cultivates a high-performing team by recruiting top talent, fostering teamwork, and driving excellence.
  • Fiscal Oversight: Manages budget administration, risk management, and investment portfolios, including endowments and scholarship funds.
  • Collaborative Partnerships: Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with academic and administrative leaders to promote fiscal responsibility and accountability.
  • Vendor Management: Oversees vendor contracts for essential services, including text books, maintenance, and food service operations.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Keeps the University compliant with professional and tax standards, as well as laws and regulations governing higher education and employment.
  • Internal Controls: Ensures robust internal controls and procedures are in place to safeguard the institution’s assets and provide accurate financial information.

Qualifications

  • Mission Alignment: Deep understanding and commitment to CIU’s biblical values, community life, doctrinal standards, mission and goals.
  • Executive Management: Proven senior-level management skills with the ability to oversee departments, projects, and deadlines effectively.
  • Team Collaboration: Strong ability to work cohesively within a team environment.
  • Financial Expertise: Demonstrated expertise in financial reporting, management, and analysis within a complex financial structure and fund accounting system.
  • Regulatory Insight: In-depth knowledge of issues and laws governing higher education.
  • Communication Proficiency: Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience: Progressive financial management background with prior executive level financial experience.
  • Education: Graduate degree in accounting or finance; CPA preferred.
