Missionary Church Planter, Agency Leader, Author. Raised in Papua, Indonesia, Steve (’84 & ’85) has had a heart for cross cultural missionary service since childhood. Following CIU training, Steve, and his wife Arlene (’84) led a new church planting effort in a major Muslim people group in Indonesia. Steve helped establish a resource and research ministry center for evangelism, various publications, and media projects, two English language schools, and a skills training program that employed hundreds of local people. As Area Director for Pioneers, Steve later provided oversight for more than fifteen missionary teams and facilitated the establishment of Pioneers mobilization bases in Australia and New Zealand. Steve was appointed President of Pioneers USA in August 1999. Pioneers has grown to become one of the world’s leading mission organizations. Steve is a frequent conference speaker and the author of Is the Commission Still Great? and Not on Board: Jonah’s Plunge Into God’s Plan.
