Description

The development of students, To Know Him and To Make Him Known, is at the heart of CIU’s College of Education’s purpose.  Faculty members are called upon to embody and to implement CIU’s motto, purpose and mission, as well as the educational philosophy and conceptual framework of the College of Education. This is accomplished by facilitating student growth in biblical knowledge, spiritual maturity, ministry orientation, and the professional skills necessary for service in a variety of cultural contexts. College of Education faculty members carry responsibility for such instructional activities as classroom teaching (undergraduate, graduate, and online), student mentoring, advising, and ministry supervision/coaching.  They also serve as primary stewards of educational programs and policies. The instructional responsibilities of the faculty member normally will not exceed 24 semester hours annually.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and mentor students and other related instructional duties.
  • Oversee advisees to consult concerning program guidance, graduation requirements, and academic policies.
  • Assist the dean the of College of Education in the oversight, on-going development, and assessment of the curriculum to provide the professional competencies that contribute to the aim of the College of Education as expressed within its conceptual framework.
  • Oversee, maintain, and assess programs, including minutes, report writing, and use of data for alignment with agencies such as SACS, ABHE, ACSI and CAEP.
  • Organize course offerings to fit the parameters of the program timeline and schedules.
  • Assist the Admissions office in its efforts to recruit qualified students.
  • Participate in and contribute to various institutional activities such as chapel prayer day, faculty workshops; program meetings, committee assignments; and assessment of educational effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated commitment to CIU’s mission, core values, and ministry standards.

Qualifications

  • Work effectively with colleagues.
  • Use excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Prepare professional reports and presentations.
  • Use information technology at a high level.
  • Organize, manage, and complete timeline projects over multiple-year period.
  • Design and implement effective instructional strategies and methodologies.
  • Foster student spiritual growth, ministry skills, and personal development through. modeling, teaching, and mentoring, including collaboration with student workers and/or graduate assistants if available.
  • Committed to the preparation of leaders for Kingdom work in all educational settings.
  • Familiarity with standards-based assessment principles.
  • Previous high school teaching experience.
  • Previous academic administration experiences.
  • Previous postsecondary teaching experience
  • Cross-cultural experience.
  • Familiarity with national and state standards, such as SACS, ABHE, ACSI, NAEYC, CAEP, and State K-12 Standards
  • Ed D. or Ph.D. in education from accredited university preferably with emphasis in administration, curriculum, early childhood/elementary, education foundations, higher education, instruction, or leadership.
