Description

The Clinical Practice Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations and clinical service delivery of student wellness at The Terrace Counseling Center at Columbia International University. This position combines direct counseling services, client care coordination, and support for clinic operations to promote effective, accessible, and high-quality care for students and community clients. Working closely with the Counseling Center Director, the Clinical Practice Coordinator assists with intake coordination, scheduling, workflow management, documentation oversight, and collaborative outreach initiatives, while contributing to the university’s overall mission and wellness goals. The role is designed to support future program growth, with responsibilities evolving as counseling and wellness services expand. Approximately 50% of the role involves clinical coordination and operations, with 50% dedicated to direct client services.

Responsibilities

Administrative Operations

Assist with daily student life counseling and clinic operations and workflow management.
Support scheduling systems, intake paperwork, and record management.
Help maintain clinic policies, procedures, and operational documentation.
Track client statistics, utilization data, and clinic outcomes as requested.
Coordinate communication between the clinic director, student counselors, and student life.
Assist with quality assurance and compliance efforts.

Client Care Coordination

Serve as a point of contact for new client inquiries and scheduling.
Coordinate intake processes, referrals, and follow-up communication.
Assist with matching clients to student counselors or staff clinicians based on client needs.
Monitor client flow and help ensure continuity of care.
Maintain confidentiality and HIPAA-compliant communication practices.

Student, Faculty, and Campus Support

Coordinate timely counseling services for CIU and Ben Lippen students, addressing current gaps in service availability.
Provide direct clinical services when necessary.

Community and Campus Collaboration

Maintain professional relationships with campus departments and community referral sources.
Assist with outreach, psychoeducational programming, and wellness initiatives.
Support the mission and values of the counseling center and institution.

Qualifications

Strong clinical counseling, interpersonal, and crisis-management skills.
Ability to balance direct client care responsibilities with administrative and operational coordination.
Knowledge of counseling ethics, HIPAA requirements, documentation standards, and confidentiality practices.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in scheduling, record management, and workflow coordination.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, trainees, and community referral partners.
Competence in intake coordination, referral management, and continuity-of-care practices.
Familiarity with electronic health records, telehealth platforms, and clinical scheduling systems.
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary and student-centered university environment.

Adaptability and professionalism in a developing and growing counseling center environment.
Eligible for or holding clinical licensure in South Carolina (LPC-A, LPC, LMFT, LISW-CP, or equivalent), or ability to obtain licensure in South Carolina.
Experience providing counseling services in a clinical, university, community mental health, or integrated care setting preferred.
Experience with intake assessment, client coordination, scheduling systems, or counseling clinic operations preferred.
Knowledge of crisis response procedures, referral practices, and ethical/legal standards in counseling practice preferred.
Experience working with college students, emerging adults, or diverse populations preferred.
Commitment to culturally responsive care and student wellness within a Christ-centered educational environment.
Master’s degree or higher in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, or a related clinical field from an accredited institution.
