The world seems more abrasive, rude, and disconnected than ever before. Many point to social media as being at the center of the problem — replacing civil, in-person discourse.

However, Columbia International University professor of counseling Dr. Seth L. Scott says the problem of the tongue has been around a whole lot longer than social media.

The Bible’s book of James suggests that our tendency to use words to cut down, enflame, provoke, and destroy is endemic to our sinful and fallen nature as humans.

Scott discusses our tongue and three steps to purifying its output in a recent article published at crosswalk.com. Read the article “Why It’s Impossible to ‘Tame the Tongue.’”
