Long-Time CIU Choir Director and Wife Named Honorary Alumni

May 06, 2010

Between 1949 and 1989, G. William "Bill" Supplee exalted the Lord at Columbia International University by directing the Ambassador Choir and teaching music. Because of his devotion to CIU many assumed over those 40 years that he was a CIU alumnus. He wasn't then. But he is now.

Bill Supplee and his wife Joyce were named honorary alumni of CIU at a chapel service that featured Bill back in his old role of choir director. Dozens of CIU alumni who were former Ambassador Choir members joined Bill on the stage of Shortess Chapel for a medley of hymns that ended with the student body joining in for a spine-tingling rendition of "Holy, Holy, Holy."

Joyce was recognized for her 26 years of music ministry as the Ambassador Choir "business manager," organizing tours and juggling the necessary details.

Former Ambassador Choir members sent notes of encouragement to the Supplees thanking them for many fond memories.

One called Bill "an awesome teacher, an example in his life and conduct, and a great leader." Another wrote, "The Supplees taught me to sing with my heart, as well as with my voice."
