A Great Story of Grace

March 02, 2010

In January, Columbia International University mourned the loss of a 25-year-old alumna. Aimee Elisabeth Powell, class of 2007, died from injuries she suffered in a traffic accident in the Charotte, N.C. area. She was on her way to teach her fourth grade class at SouthLake Christian Academy in Huntersville, N.C. when police say her car was hit by a man driving an oncoming vehicle that crossed the center line at 55 miles per hour.

In an update to the story, the "Carolina Weekly" reports that Powell's parents have asked prosecutors not to charge the driver of the other vehicle, while the family and Powell's church reach out to him. Powell's parents are also CIU graduates, Scott (class of '85) and Leslie (class of '82).
