Columbia International University will focus on the second half of its motto, “To know Him and to make Him known” during the annual World Christian Week, Feb. 26-March 1.
The week, which is planned and run by a committee of students, is designed to highlight the need to make disciples of all the nations.
The keynote speaker for the week is Dr. Michael Oh, the founder and president of Christ Bible Institute and Seminaryin Nagoya, Japan. He holds degrees from the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard University, and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Oh was recently appointed executive director/chief executive officer of the Lausanne Movement effective March 1. Lausanne mobilizes evangelical leaders to collaborate for world evangelization.
More than being a president of a seminary or leader of an influential evangelical movement, Oh describes his life this way:
My life is the answer to three questions - 1) What is the most important/strategic thing you can possibly do with your life? 2) What is the most important/strategic/needy place to do it? 3) What is the most strategic/important way to do that most important/strategic thing in that most important/strategic/needy place.
I used to think that if I had three lives with one I would be doing what I am currently doing, with another I would be a politician to influence society, and with another I would be a businessman making lots of money to donate to missions. Now I realize that if I had three lives, I'd do what I'm now doing with all three.
Oh will address the student body during the regular 11 a.m. Chapel hour on Thursday and Friday. The public is invited to attend each Chapel Tuesday through Friday during World Christian Week.
Other World Christian Week events include a Chapel message on reaching Iranians, a focus on prayer, informal “fireside chats” with mission agency representatives and international lunches from diverse locations such as Germany, Southeast Asia and Jamaica.
