Summary

Teach in and provide oversight for the Sports Leadership program, including consulting with faculty colleagues and the dean, instructing, interacting with, and advising students within the program

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach 7-8 undergraduate courses per year (faculty workload is calculated at 24 semester hours), including courses in such fields as Biblical, Theological, and Philosophical Foundations of Sports Leadership; History, Sociology, and Psychology of Sports; Ethics and Character Development in Sports; Administration of Sports and Recreation; Leadership and Staff Development, Physical Health and Wellness; Sports Management & Event Planning; Sports Marketing &  Promotions; Legal Issues in the Sports Industry;  Professional Use of Sports Technology and/or Sports Internship
  • Advise and counsel students within the Sports Leadership major
  • Provide assistance in developing the program, including collaboration with colleagues and with the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
  • Assist the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences as needed to secure qualified and competent adjunct faculty.
  • Assist in the ongoing refinement of the Sports Leadership major to ensure its consistency with CIU’s institutional mission and with program objectives
  • Advise the library regarding acquisition and preservation of relevant materials (print and electronic)
  • Work within the program budget in consultation with dean and colleagues
  • Serve on committees as assigned within the university
  • Attend faculty meetings at the college and university level, attend appropriate events including chapel, conferences, prayer sessions, etc.
  • Yearly affirm the institution’s mission, doctrinal position, and community standards. 

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in Sports Leadership or related field
  • Some formal biblical-theological training preferred
  • Some cross-cultural experience or ministry desired
  • Preference given to individuals with at least three years of experience teaching effectively at the college level
  • Extensive knowledge of the core disciplines associated with sports leadership
  • Ability to teach effectively at the college level
  • Understands the needs and trends associated with traditional college-age students
  • Ability to confront and resolve conflicts when necessary
  • Commitment to preparing students with a global orientation
  • Commitment to CIU’s biblical university mission
  • Commitment to live within the standards of the CIU community
