Rick Higgins is the associate dean for ministry skills development and field education at Columbia Biblical Seminary & School of Ministry. Before assuming that position in 1996, he served Columbia International University as dean of married students from 1992-1996 and as university registrar from 1984-1992. From 1976 to 1981 Higgins was a naval flight officer, serving as a mission commander. He achieved ranking as a top one percent officer, selected for early promotion. He left the Navy because he sensed God calling him into His service. From 1981-1984 he was an assistant professor at the University of South Carolina, teaching leadership and navigation in the Department of Naval Science. He was nominated as NROTC instructor of the year. Dr. Higgins and his wife, Jeanne, have three children.
