Great fun, good competition and personalized instruction are the focus of three sports camps this summer at Columbia International University.
CIU Soccer Coach James Whitaker hosted the first-ever CIU Boys Soccer Camp in early June. For four days players ages 5-17 experienced high-quality, individual instruction and learned the fundamentals of the game and skill development from an experienced camp staff, including specialized goalkeeper training. Competitive tournaments and matches were a highlight of the week.
The CIU Boys and Girls Basketball Camp for children in first through eighth grade featured three days of basketball fundamentals and skill development. The camp focused on the skill level of each child and worked toward improving their abilities. Daily sessions consisted of a combination of instruction, demonstrations, drills, skill station work and games.
The CIU Cross Country Camp is July 22-24 for seventh to twelfth graders and features basic biomechanics, nutrition, and goal setting, as well as training tips from CIU Rams Cross Country Coach Jud Brooker who comes from a family of respected and award-winning runners. Joining Coach Brooker at the camp will be his father, Elite Distance Coach Scott Brooker, who was a U.S. Women’s Cross Country Nationals race director, and his mother, Jane Brooker, a three-time Olympic trials qualifier.
All three camps include a Christian camp environment with daily devotions led by the coaches. For details and registration go to: http://ciuathletics.com/page.asp?articleID=2
