Melissa TurlingtonBachelor - Bible Teaching

Why did you choose Columbia International University?

I chose CIU because of the community, the passion of the professors, and the financial aid I received.  I knew that I'd make good friends who would challenge me in my faith and in others areas I had become "comfortable".  The passion of the professors impacted me because, though they are very intelligent, they are also humble, recognizing God as the ultimate authority.

What has been your favorite class at CIU and why?

My favorite class has been Introduction to Philosophy because of Dr. Gentry's teaching style.  In his class, you must know the material in order to pass.  I have never studied so hard!  But I still remember things I learned that class even though I'm not taking it anymore.  Dr. Gentry is both intimidating and challenging, but his classes are valuable.  His walk with God inspires me because he has the humilty that comes from knowing his worth and value are found in Christ.

What do you like best about CIU?

Definitely the community!  The relationships people have with Christ are so real here.  Many people are truly seeking the Lord.  I appreciate the friendships I have formed - I know I can laugh, cry, or pray with someone whenver I need to.  And the pranks are always fun too!

What do you plan to do after graduation from CIU?

I want to teach the Bible overseas and possibly get my Masters in TEFL.
