For the seventh time in his life, 52-year-old Bill Haselden went for a little swim in Florida – the annual 12.5 mile Swim Around Key West on June 8. But this time, Haselden, a student in CIU Seminary & School of Ministry took along one of his professors, Dr. Rick Higgins. Higgins served alongside him in a kayak as his aid. Haselden finished in 26th place among solo male swimmers and 47th overall with a time of 6 hours and 17 minutes.
Haselden, who is a retired business executive and founder of Pet Lover’s Warehouse, lives in Chapin, S.C. and became a CIU student at the suggestion of Higgins. He is enrolled in the Biblical Ministry Certificate program and is considering pursuing a master’s degree from the seminary. Haselden says at this point, his main goal as a student “is to absorb as much of the teaching as I can and allow God to apply it to my life.”
Higgins wrote about his Key West experience with Haselden on his blog: http://www.rickhiggins.org/2013/06/13/swim-around-key-west/.
