With the increasing biblical illiteracy in our culture, particularly involving the Old Testament, Dr. Gault's driving desire is to equip students with the passion and skills necessary to understand and apply its teaching. The literature of ancient Israel tells of real people with real problems, which God has preserved to teach us about man's exceeding sinfulness, God's glorious character and His saving purpose.

Dr. Gault is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature, National Association of Professors of Hebrew, Institute for Biblical Research, and Evangelical Theological Society, where he serves on the steering committee for a study group on Old Testament Wisdom Literature. He has contributed articles to Bibliotheca Sacra, Bulletin for Biblical Research, Revue de Qumran, and Journal for the Study of the Old Testament.  His research interests include wisdom and prophetic literature.

He is currently writing a monograph on Song of Songs as well as a commentary in the Minor Prophets. He has also served as a children's pastor in a small, Southern Baptist church and a small group leader in various contexts. He and his wife Cara have two small children.
