Summary:

The Public Services Librarian oversees the reference and circulation functions of the library and teaches information literacy and bibliographic instruction in the classroom.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the reference and circulation desk operations
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures concerning lending, reserves, OCLC based interlibrary loan, and document delivery.
  • Provides user assistance at the reference desk and shares information literacy support duties with the Library Director
  • Oversees development of the library’s electronic resources
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures for providing library support for the university’s online programs
  • Attends the University faculty meetings
  • Does special projects as assigned by the Library Director
  • The Public Services Librarian reports to the Library Director
  • The Public Services Librarian supervises the Reference Assistant, the Circulation Assistant, and numerous student assistants

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an American Library Association-accredited program required
  • B.A. or Master’s degree in biblical/theological studies strongly preferred
  • Two or more years of reference experience in an academic setting highly preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of the field of professional library public service work required
  • Knowledge of and experience with the use of online and print information resources required
  • Strong interpersonal skills required
  • Ability to communicate in the classroom setting required
  • Strong organizational skills highly preferred
