South Carolina Quarterback Encourages CIU Students to “Read the Bible Out Loud”
Dylan Thompson shares a laugh with CIU Athletics Director Kim Abbott after Chapel.
University of South Carolina football standout Dylan Thompson addressed a Columbia International University Chapel service, sharing his Christian testimony and encouraging CIU students to join him in a Web-based Bible reading project.
Thompson, a quarterback for the Gamecocks, made headlines at the 2013 Outback Bowl on Jan. 1 when he came off the bench to lead his team to an upset of Big Ten powerhouse Michigan.
At the CIU Chapel, Thompson shared his Christian testimony saying that he grew up in the church and “prayed to receive Christ” as a child, but it was not until he was at the University of South Carolina that he “fully surrendered” his life to Christ.
Thompson has since started a website called The Bible Out Loud. It’s a community outreach that challenges people to reacquaint themselves with the power of the Bible and memorize it by reading a favorite passage of the Bible out loud, and submitting it to the website.
