While Columbia International University students relaxed on spring break, Over 200 home school students took advantage of empty CIU classrooms for a debate tournament sponsored by The National Christian Forensics and Communications Association (NCFCA) – the third largest competitive high school debate league in the nation.
For three days, over 200 competitors shuffled between buildings on the CIU campus as they competed in over 300 debates in 10 speech events.
NCFCA organizer Holly Caiello says the primary goal of NCFCA is to train students to engage the culture for Christ.
“NCFCA believes that formal speech and debate provide a means for home schooled students to exercise analytical and oratorical skills, addressing life issues from a biblical worldview in a manner that glorifies God,” Caiello said.
The debaters came from four states: South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
