It may get a bit dusty at times around the CIU campus this summer, but by the time students return in late August, there will be some very noticeable changes. It’s known around campus as “The Wow Factor.”
One of the most recognizable activities this summer is seen as soon as you enter campus – the construction of the $20 million William H. Jones Global Business & IT Center. Named after CIU’s chancellor Dr. Bill Jones, the Center will be the hub for educating students in best practices for Business and IT and how to integrate those skills into the global world. The Center also signals the CIU’s commitment to economic development along Monticello Road, the gateway to the CIU campus. Six properties on Monticello Road have been purchased by CIU or are under contract for the purpose of revitalizing the corridor.
Also on the academic side, The Fisher Classroom Building and Shortess Chapel are undergoing renovations.
In athletics, the $1 million Olympic-style Mondo track is expected to be installed in July at the Ben Lippen football field. The track will be used by CIU and Ben Lippen school athletes. Also CIU’s softball field is scheduled to be completed this summer in time for CIU’s inaugural women’s softball season in spring 2019.
Meanwhile, $10 million in air conditioning, water, lighting and other infrastructure upgrades are taking place this summer. Stay tuned for more.
