Excitement Builds as Mondotrack Surface Arrives
CIU Track Coach Jud Brooker takes a peek at the Mondotrack surface upon its arrival.
Columbia International University Track Coach Jud Brooker was all smiles when the trucks arrived in July delivering the much anticipated Mondotrack surface to the CIU/Ben Lippen School campus.
Work crews have been braving the South Carolina summer sun renovating the track surrounding the Ben Lippen football field preparing for the laying of the $1 million, eight-lane Olympic-style surface which will be used by both CIU and Ben Lippen.
Mondotrack is a leading innovation in track and field surfacing, and is known world-wide for enhanced performance and decreasing the chance of injury. Mondotracks are also unique for their durability and multicolored lanes and runways.
The new surface will make CIU among the few South Carolina colleges with a Mondotrack and Ben Lippen the only SCISA school with one. Ben Lippen is CIU’s Pre-K to 12th grade Christian school.
Brooker says recruiting for CIU track and field continues to increase since the Mondo project was announced last spring. Construction of the Mondotrack is expected to be complete in the fall and ready for CIU and Ben Lippen to host track meets in spring 2019.
What’s your sport? CIU athletics continues to grow with the inaugural seasons of women’s softball and volleyball in the 2018-19 school year. Check out the CIU Rams website.
Join the excitement. CIU is experiencing growth in enrollment and has announced $25 million in expansion plans for the campus. CIU is accredited by SACS-COC.
