Bob Kallgren Honored by SC Educators

Bob Kallgren Honored by SC Educators

SCICU President and CEO Mike LeFever makes the presentation to the Kallgren family.

The late Bob Kallgren was honored by his peers in South Carolina education.  South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (SCICU) announced the establishment of the Robert C. Kallgren Memorial Chair during a lunch at CIU on Sept. 21.  Kallgren, who served at CIU for 39 years before his death in 2011, was CIU’s vice president for institutional effectiveness and was CIU’s representative to SCICU.  SCICU supports and promotes the values of independent higher education in South Carolina, and includes the membership of 20 schools.

The honor included a glass, stand-up plaque that was presented to Kallgren’s widow Judy, his sons Rob and Tim, and his daughter-in-law Rebecca.

Don Pierce of Furman University remembered Bob Kallgren as an encourager who had not only a “can do spirit,” but more importantly, “a can do for others spirit.”

The plaque reads:

To the honor and memory of

Robert C. Kallgren

For his untiring service to advancing the ideals of

Higher education and Christian faith
